You are invited to the monthly Pioneers of Change Living Sustainably meeting on Sat 19th March from 9am-11:30am at the GreenHouse Project, Joubert Park, inner City Johannesburg). There is safe parking inside the GreenHouse Project.
The first half hour will be for informal networking and sharing of breakfast. Please bring some environmentally friendly food or beverages for breakfast. The meeting is free otherwise. I am pleased to announce that Richard Worthington will be speaking:
Richard Worthington is the Project Co-ordinator of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Partnership (SECCP) - a project of Earthlife Africa Johannesburg and World Wildlife Fund Denmark. The project aims, through a combination of awareness-raising, research, advocacy and local and international networking, to mobilize civil society for support of a more sustainable energy development path and responsible climate change policies in South and Southern Africa. Richard has been an office-bearer of Earthlife Africa Johannesburg branch for 8 years. Earthlife Africa, is a voluntary, non-government organisation working on environmental and social justice issues at various levels from policy formulation to direct action. Richard is also the Co-ordinator of the South African Climate Action Network (SACAN). He was named Energy Personality of the Year in 2002 by the Sustainable Energy Society of Southern Africa. These are a small part of Richard's credentials. Richard will be speaking about energy and climate change.
After Richard's talk and a discussion we will be building barrel gardens in the GreenHouse grounds. Please bring some gardening gloves and wear old clothes.
This will be a regular meeting on the third Saturday of each month from roughly 9-11am at the GreenHouse Project. It's a space for interested people to get together and explore how to live more sustainably. Any suggestions on topics, speakers or events are most welcome. Upcoming is a 2 day retreat workshop on 21st and 22nd May at Groot Marico, to learn how to build hotboxes and also about either permaculture or strawbale building.
