Hotbox Workshop
May 21-23, Johannesburg.
A hotbox can be used as an alternative energy source to save electricity when cooking food that would normally take a long time. It is a wooden or cardboard box with a lid on it (about 50cm x 50cm). Inside are 2 cushions filled with polystyrene (you can recycle the trays they give you in supermarkets). If you are cooking beans, for example, you bring the pot to the boil on a stove, and then put in between the 2 cushions in the box. It will continue to cook for a couple of hours with no risk of the food burning.
