First Learning Journey Report - Bangladesh
- Our first learning journey was in partnership between Pioneers of Change and the Common Futures Forum, an international fellowship of social entrepreneurs and was hosted by Working for Better Life in Bangladesh in March 2001. The program focused on exploring local practices of micro-finance, micro-enterprise and non-formal education as a means towards poverty alleviation. Local partners included BRAC, The Grameen Bank, ASA, and Proshika. 30 young change-makers and Pioneers came together to explore, interact with and reflect on local practices as a basis for improving their own socially entrepreneurial practices of social change, poverty alleviation and microcredit in Sri Lanka, South Africa, brazil, the USA, India and more. We spent a day at the Grameen bank, meeting Mr. Yunus and learning about the various initiatives being spun out from the Grameen model to make available affordable communications, energy, textiles, financing in rural communities through women cooperatives and entrepreneurial endeavours.
